- The Meridian Way Wind Farm is located in north central Kansas in Cloud
counthy, eight miles SE of Concordia. The wind farm site includes 38,000
acres of land, at an elevation of 1650 feet. Meridian Way, a 201 megawatt
(MW) wind farm, is owned by Horizon Wind Energy, LLC , and will produce
Kansas homes. Construction will begin in the Spring of 2008, and is expected to be
online by December of 2008. Meridian Road was the original name of Highway 81, thus
"Meridian Way." Empire District Electric Company will purchase 105 MW of wind energy
annually. Westar Energy, the largest electric utility in Kansas, will purchase 96 MW wind
energy annually. Over 35 landowners with approximately 20,000 acres of privately-owned
land will participate under long-term easement options covering turbines, access roads,
transmission corridors and wind rights. This land is more than sufficient for the first two
phases of the Meridian Way Wind Farm. Horizon Wind Energy is a wind project developer
based in Houston, Texas, with regional offices in New York, Oregon, California,
Minnesota and Illinois.

Everton Energy, LLC broke ground September 10, 2007
with construction of $240 million ethanol plant. In February 2009, the plant will begin
processing 110 million gallons of ethanol per year, and employ 50-60 people. In October
